Whakapapa is New Zealand’s largest ski resort since joining with Turoa Ski Resort, which is apart of Tongariro National Park, in New Zealand's oldest national park and world heritage area. It is operated under a license issued by the Department of Conservation with 43 trails ranging in different terrains for all ability levels including off-piste expert terrain.

This New Zealand skiing area can be broken into three areas, including a self contained beginners area and two other areas accessible by lift. Nearby accommodation includes hotels, motels and backpacker facilities.

Accommodation throughout and surrounding Whakapapa can range from backpacker style, hotel suites or self-contained units allowing the perfect accommodation for any traveler and encouraging a stop-over while exploring the beautiful country that New Zealand is.

Ski hire is available throughout the NZ Ski Fields and Whakapapa has ski shops, snow groomers, instructors and a ski school for adults and children with free-riding allowed on all open terrain as well as a half-pipe.
